News and Prayer
Letter Duane and Diane Arender Missionaries to the Ilocano People of the Philippines and Southeast Asia www.pottersclayministry.com email: pastor@pottersclayminstry.com Potters Clay Ministry Volume 5 Issue 2 5-04-2006 Power in the Pulpit I know this may sound strange coming from a missionary but after preaching for 20 years and pastoring 3 churches and then God calling me to the mission field, I feel I am some what qualified to speak on this subject. We as pastors (or former pastors) would like to think that we preach with power but do we? We say "my people just want move", or "no one gets saved," or "I just seem to not be able to get them to do anything." But what is the reason for this? Before I answer this question let me say that this is heavy on my heart. I know this is not the normal newsletter that missionaries write but I just feel that the Father wants me to be a missionary to you pastors in this newsletter. What America needs is churches that are on fire, that only comes from pulpits that are on fire. A fire has to start somewhere and the only place it can start is in the pulpit or should I say "the pastors study". How do we get this fire? Why have we lost it, and will it truly change our churches? I can speak from experience on this matter because I have been in the Lord’s pulpit when it was dry and dusty and when it was glowing red hot with fire from " the Holy Spirit" falling fresh on it. The difference was "me" are should I say "my prayer time."
Where there is smoke there is Fire .Pastor, How much time did you spend in prayer yesterday? What about the day before? The old saying is true, "your people will not rise above your walk with the Lord". None of the disciples out did Christ, but we see their boldness and strength after the resurrection. I believe with all my heart that there is one thing that is missing from our studies. And I do not believe it is bible study even though we could use a lot more of that. But the one thing I believe that is missing in quantity and quality is PRAYER. So to answer the earlier question, how much time did you spend? 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 20 minutes. Do we really think that even 30 minutes a day can get us to the point of fellowship that we need to be at with the Father? We are talking "power". Power that can only come from a Holy, Almighty God. Preaching so powerful that even satan himself flees because men of God have spent time with God on there face. Pastor do you spend more time on the internet than your knees? Do you spend more time playing golf than on your knees? I enjoy reading books from old authors about men who spent hours in prayer. What about our King? How much time did He spend in prayer? Let’s take a quick look and see. Luke 6:12 says" And it came to pass in those days, that He went out in to a mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God." Pastors have you ever prayed all night, half a night or even 1 hour at a time. Or are we like Peter in Matthew 26: 40, "And He cometh to His disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What could ye not watch with me for one hour." Prayer, what a privilege Almighty God has given us and most of us do not take full use of it. My dear Brothers, are we truly prayer warriors. Do we truly touch the "Throne of Grace" Heb. 4:16? Brothers let me encourage you to pray. I need your prayers, my pastor needs your prayers, your church needs your prayers, our nation needs the prayers of our Lords churches. We all have time to pray Mark 1:35 says "And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed." What was the source of the Masters power? Prayer. What gave Him strength to go to the cross? Prayer. What moves the hand of "The Great I Am" Prayer, notice James 5:16b, "The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much". I ask you one question, Where is power? The answer lies "on our knees." There is no greater source of strength or power than spending time on our face in front of the True and Living God. He is truly the "King of kings" Thanks for letting me share my heart with you. This country can turn around by God’s people praying. We are the only ones with the "Blessed Hope".
Keep praying We are still praying for this summers tickets and that God would open doors that we are praying over. Thanks to the churches that picked us up on support this month, you are an answer to "fervent prayer". Thanks for all your prayers No missionary can go without the faithful prayers of Gods pastors and churches. Thanks again.
